We have exciting news as we head into our 2018/2019 Season! VSCDance is happy announce that we are now offering Adult Ballet! Please visit the classes section of this website for more details. VSCD's own Artistic Director, Kelly Hobson, has been invited to participate as one of three choreographers chosen for Dance Victoria's 2nd annual Choreographic Lab. Congratulations Kelly!
Student and Alumni News:
Look for Kayla Henry, Michael Kong and Joanne Cuffe at Victoria Dance Festival Romp August 20-31, they will be improvising, performing work by Paras Terezakis of Kinesis Dance Somatheatro and Joanne will be leading Improv Workshops. Andrew Barrett (Impulse Theatre) will present work at Bounce which is part of Romp this season and at the Victoria Fringe Festival where you will also find Levi Schneider (Blindfold Theatre) and Ingrid Hansen (Snafu Theatre).
Brianna Ferguson, Lulu May and Helena Colley will be entering their third year of training with Winnipeg Contemporary Dancers Senior Professional Programme, Veronique Emmet will be moving into second year. Kylie Jensen will be entering her third year at York University Dance Programme, Mahaila Patterson O’Brian will enter her forth year at SFU and congratulations to Matilda Cobanli who has been accepted into Vancouver Professional Training Programme Modus Operandi.
Artistic Director, Constance Cooke premiered Spill 4 at Dancing on The Edge in Vancouver this summer with dancer Jung-Ah Chung. She was also awarded funding from both the Canada Council for the Arts and the BC Arts Council for two new projects this season. Jung-ah Chung was in Korea creating and premiering Chimasal, she will also be performing From Korea With Love at Victoria Dance Festival Romp August 20-31, and performing Kiki and the Victoria Fringe Festival.
Wings Mentorship Programme – For Emerging Dance Professionals:
This years participating young artists are dancers Hikari Shigeno (Japan) and Kate Likhotin (Winnipeg). This programme encourages artistic risk, adventure and gives young emerging professionals the opportunity to work with established professionals in the Canadian Contemporary Dance Scene. The Mentorship Programme includes: Movement Classes, Workshops and Coaching, and an apprenticeship with Company Constance Cooke Dance, working along side established professional dancers. is a Pre-Professional Company for dancers 17 +, there are no auditions for Transitions, if you are interested in joining the company please contact our artistic director.
VSC Dance is pleased to be able to offer daily professional classes this season while the company is in creation, classes will be lead by visiting Guest Artists and by Artistic Director Constance Cooke. These classes are also open to pre-professionals and advanced dancers. There is a discounted rate for working professionals. Guests this season include Delphine Leroux, Angel Jutzi, Brandy Baybutt, Kate Likhotin, Hyoseung Ye and Jung-ah Chung.
is a site specific improv collective, that performs through out Victoria, if you are interested in joining the collective contact the studio. Our first work this season dances on stairs will be performed throughout the city starting this September.
