Dress Code



These classes focus on wholesome body imagery, good alignment and artistic expression. They encourage freedom of movement, and overall body awareness. All classes include a general warm-up, release work, core conditioning, technique, movement combinations and choreography. A great way to stay in shape and express yourself at the same time. Classes for beginners to advanced dancers. Come prepared to sweat, laugh, and experience the joy and delight of being in your body!


Barre Fitness

Whether you are a seasoned dancer or just looking for an effective way to condition your entire body this is an ideal class for you. Barre is a full body workout that combines elements of dance, Pilates, and yoga while integrating the use of a balletrre. Be ready to have fun with this energetic workout choreographed to upbeat music. It fuses together fitness and dance-based techniques to create an hour-long class focused on core strength, flexibility and endurance. This is a guaranteed effective way to lift, strenghthen and lengthen muscles and increase overall flexibility and range of motion in the joints, strengthen your entire body and improve your overall endurance! Come give it a try. All levels welcome..



Dancers will explore exercises designed to generate new and innovative movement choices. Get ready to move, surprise yourself, break familiar movement patterns and be inspired. Partnering, contact improvisation, voice work and site specific improvisation will also be explored.



Professional Classes

VSC Dance is pleased to offer professional contemporary technique classes for the past three seasons. These classes are also open to pre-professionals and dancers at an advanced level in their training. There is a discounted rate for working professionals. These classes are lead by dance professionals in the community and guests from out of town, province and country.


Dance For The Camera

For Dancers, Videographers and Choreographers, this programme offers a new way to see, stimulate, device and engage with movement, as it exists in the frame. Learn how to compose new vocabulary specific to the frame and explore scale, time, the moving camera vs. the still camera, location and more. Participants need their own camera.


Kinect-Student Choreographic Lab & Performances

We are all inspired, creative beings and given support, opportunity and tools, we are all innovators. Kinect is VSC Dance’s annual student choreographic showcase. Working with mentors from our faculty, students are given the opportunity to create their own pieces and to have that work performed. Kinect generates unforgettable dance that celebrates creative process, performance, and the art of making dance.


Wings Mentorship Programme

For Emerging Dance Professionals: This programme encourages artistic risk, adventure and gives young emerging professionals the opportunity to work with established professionals in the Canadian Contemporary Dance Scene. The Mentorship Programme includes: Movement Classes, Workshops and Coaching and an apprenticeship with Company Constance Cooke Dance, working along side established professional dancers. Registration for VSC Dance classes is easy and straightforward. Download the attached PDF file, complete it, and deliver it to us during office hours.

Online registration

Online registration is now available! Click here if this is your preferred method to register for classes. Please note we do not use electronic commerce at this time but you may use this method to submit your information and reserve your classes. Payments need to be made at the studio before the first day of classes.

Fees and Registration Policies

Fees, Withdrawals and Refunds:


Class Fees: All classes are from September to the end of May. If for any reason, a student chooses to discontinue classes, one month written notification of withdrawal is required. Fees are payable until proper notice is received by the office or administrator.


Registration Fee: A $20 non-refundable registration is payable on the day of registration, $30 per family.


Performance and Festival Fees: Performance and Festival fees, where applicable, are due January 1.


NSF Cheque Service Charges and Interest: ALL NSF cheques are subject to a $30 service charge. 20% interest will be charged to overdue accounts and unpaid monthly fees.




All students are required to follow this dress code:



Bodysuit or tank, leggings, bare feet.


Conditioning and Improvisation

Bodysuit or tank, leggings or loose-fitting dance pants, bare feet.



Bodysuit, tights or leggings, ballet slippers.


At VSC Dance we offer a number of scholarships to our students. These awards are presented at the school’s annual concert.

... recognizes students who constantly push their own comfort zone, who challenge themselves, and approach their training with curiosity and innovation.

The Spirit of Kidco Award


... recognizes an individual who is an advocate of enthusiasm, initiative, and motivation, with an altruistic sensibility of giving and sharing — in other words, a champion of serving the community of dance.


This award was created by Kerry Krich, founder and artistic director of Kidco, and is part of Victoria School of Contemporary Dance’s heritage.

... is funded by an anonymous donor. This bursary supports one hardworking student who has an outstanding work ethic.

The S. A. Cooke Scholarship


... recognizes one deserving student who demonstrates and approaches his or her work with creativity and musicality.

The Donna Ball Watson Award


... is given to one outstanding student who has shown exceptionally artistic growth throughout the year. The award is in honour of Donna Ball Watson and the hundreds of students she has taught in this city and across the country for the past 40 years.

In addition to these scholarships, a number of other dancers and choreographers have been honoured with scholarships and awards from the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival and Danceworks Festival.


Our faculty and guest choreographers have also received numerous awards and scholarships, as well as funding from the Canada Council for the Arts, The BC Arts Council, The Vancouver Foundation, and more.
